Six Boston College Eagles football players were selected by the league’s coaches as members of the 2014 All-ACC team on Wednesday.

The Eagles were center Andy Gallik on the second team, guard Bobby Vardaro, running back Jon Hilliman, defensive tackle Connor Wujciak, and linebacker Josh Keyes on the third team, as well as honorable mention offensive tackle Ian Silberman.

Aside from Hilliman, who is a true freshman, all the Eagles selected are upperclassmen or graduate students. None of the six were featured on the 2013 All-ACC team.

Gallik, a Rimington Trophy finalist as announced earlier this week, was the highest Eagle on the list of 2014 All-ACC honors. Ironically, the center chosen for the first team above him, Miami’s Shane McDermott, was not a Rimington finalist. Said award is given to the nation’s best center. Gallik missed out on the first team by a single point, 22 to 21.

Yesterday, Gallik and Josh Keyes were named to the 2014 All-New England team alongside quarterback Tyler Murphy, defensive back Manny Asprilla, and punter Alex Howell.

Boston College has spent much of the year doing the running-back-by-committee thing, but Jon Hilliman eventually became the closest thing the Eagles have to a featured back. He led the team with 12 rushing touchdowns this season and netted 712 yards on the ground. This is second to Murphy who has 1,079, but first amongst Eagle running backs.

Vardaro will play in his final game as an Eagle at the Pinstripe Bowl on December 27. To date, the big left guard has appeared in 48 games, including 11 games this year. Vardaro’s blocking has been a big part of the reason for the success of the run game these past several seasons.

Wujciak has just 30 tackles on the season, but he also has 7.5 tackles for a loss and three sacks. Notably, Wujciak also forced a fumble.

Finally, Ian Silberman, a Florida transfer who came to the Heights for a one-year-only arrangement, has also helped to bolster the Boston College offensive line.

Congratulations to all of our Eagles on the 2014 All-ACC team.
