All games involving ACC teams will be picked both straight-up and against-the-spread in about two hours time. For now, we pick six games elsewhere in the world of Division I college football and pick them against the spread.
This week lacks the marquee matchups of last weekend, though it does have one or two.
Week 8 College Football Picks: Pick One
Utah (-2.5) at Oregon State
Thursday, 10pm ET (Pac-12 Net)
Utah has done very well so far this season, but when I first selected this game, I wanted to take Oregon State in an upset.
After all, they’re 4-1 and it’s a Thursday night primetime game (on the West Coast, anyway). Then logic kicked in: they may be 4-1, but the Beavers are a paper-thin 4-1. Their best win all year has been San Diego State, with close wins over Hawaii and Colorado and a blowout loss to the only decent team they’ve played, USC.
This could be close with the crowd energy behind Oregon State but the Utes are the better team. Utah -2.5
Week 8 College Football Picks: Pick Two
Texas A&M at Alabama (-11.5)
Saturday, 3:30pm ET (CBS)
The Aggies are hanging on to their ranking by a thread, and Alabama doesn’t look quite so invincible, either. Interceptions are on the rise for Kenny Hill, but Alabama is actually one of the worst teams in the nation in getting them.
Both teams need this and I think Alabama gets it, but of course, it is a matter of point spread. Alabama has been winning comfortably at home and A&M just went 0-for-Mississippi. Tuscaloosa is not the place to visit when you’re in a rut. Alabama -11.5
Week 8 College Football Picks: Pick Three
Kansas State at Oklahoma (-8)
Saturday, 12pm ET (ESPN)
Oklahoma is a very good team, but you know what? So is K-State.
This is a huge road test for the Wildcats, and a chance for some real recognition. Their only other game against a ranked team was a noble effort, but here is an opportunity to serve it to Oklahoma on the road.
In the last two weeks, Oklahoma has suffered a tough loss and a hard-earned rivalry game win over Texas. K-State is catching the Sooners at about as good a time as any and may win outright. Kansas State +8
Week 8 College Football Picks: Pick Four
Oklahoma State at TCU (-9)
Saturday, 4pm ET (FS1)
TCU had that game won last week and they know it, and it’s coming in the middle of a very tough stretch of games.
While I like this Oklahoma State team, TCU has got to find some redemption, and where better than home? TCU -9
Week 8 College Football Picks: Pick Five
Michigan State (-14.5) at Indiana
Saturday, 3:30pm ET (ESPN)
Indiana has had its moments this season, and by that I mean one moment against Missouri. Michigan State had to work for their road win over Purdue last week and might have to work equally as hard this week in Indiana, but there is no doubt which team is better. Sparty’s offense should leave the Hoosiers in the dust. Michigan State -14.5
Week 8 College Football Picks: Pick Six
Hawaii at San Diego State (-9.5)
Saturday, 10:30pm ET (CBSSN)
Hawaii has actually played closer games than most people would have expected, but these are not the Colt Brennan-era Warriors. San Diego State is up and down and has trouble scoring at times, but so does Hawaii. At least the Aztecs have a defense – Hawaii will probably be held to a low number. San Diego State -9.5
