With the Week 5 college football picks, as with every week, we strive to be as correct as possible.

Also, not to horribly embarrass ourselves. Mostly that, really.

We pick six random college football games against-the-spread, non-inclusive of any contests involving ACC teams. Those get picked later in their own feature, in all their alleged glory.

Week 5 College Football Picks: Pick One

Texas Tech at Oklahoma State (-14) | Thursday, 7:30pm (ESPN)

I want to like the Red Raiders with their solid passing offense, but they have not been that impressive overall, barely getting by Central Arkansas and UTEP while getting smacked at home by the Razorbacks. The Pokes can score 40 in this game no problem and they probably win going away, though it may be competitive for a while. OKST -14

Week 5 College Football Picks: Pick Two

UCLA (-4) at Arizona State | Thursday, 10pm (FS1)

UCLA is 3-0 and a highly-ranked team, but do not look like a dominant team and that’s what concerns me about them in a contest like this. One-score victories in all of them is a sign of their ability to win the close games, but they have not yet played a team as good as the Sun Devils. This is a primetime home game for Arizona State and I think they take it straight-up. ASU +4

Week 5 College Football Picks: Pick Three

Tennessee at Georgia (-17) | Saturday, 12pm (ESPN)

Georgia looks very good so far, only slightly faltering in a rebound game for South Carolina on the road. The Bulldogs are a complete team, but their offense is worlds better than Tennessee’s. Here’s the thing: the Vols have played Georgia close the last few times they’ve met. I’ll take a chance that this will happen again, given how wide the spread is. TENN +17

Week 5 College Football Picks: Pick Four

Arkansas vs. Texas A&M (-9) | Arlington, TX | Saturday, 3:30pm (CBS)

The Hogs are on the comeback trail under Bret Bielema but they got spanked by the last top-ten team they played. Meanwhile, the Aggies look great with Kenny Hill at the helm and have truly impressed me. TAMU -9

Week 5 College Football Picks: Pick Five

Cincinnati at Ohio State (-16) | Saturday, 6pm (BTN)

Cincinnati’s defense has not been great in the two games the Bearcats have played, while Ohio State’s has been what you’d expect them to be: good. Not necessarily scary, but good. The Buckeyes most likely outlast Cincinnati in this one for the win, but covering the spread? They could, but for some reason, Ohio State does not seem that intimidating here. CIN +16

Week 5 College Football Picks: Pick Six

Oregon State @ USC (-10) | Saturday, 10:30pm (ESPN)

The Trojans have had two weeks to stew on their loss to your Boston College Eagles. I like this Oregon State team but beating USC in Los Angeles coming off of what they see as a bad loss is a tough thing to ask of the Beavers. USC -10
