Boston College Football Recruiting: LB Jimmy Martin Commits to Eagles

Someone call Rick Moranis: Boston College football recruiting is proceeding at ludicrous speed, with linebacker Jimmy Martin joining the Eagles’ 2015 class on Wednesday.

Martin is the second recruit to commit today, the fifth this week, and the ninth so far in the month of June 2014. The Boston College Eagles and their coaches entered this month with nine recruits in the bank; before the month is out, they have already doubled that total with the potential for even more to come in the closing few days.

The commitment was reported by Eagle Action.

Jimmy Martin is an inside linebacker from Maitland, Florida, near Orlando. This is a recruit we have been watching for a little while, and with good reason. A few weeks ago, Boston College offered him, and it did not take him that long to close the deal. The other offers at the time of commitment for this three-star defensive player included Cincinnati, Duke, and South Florida. Duke was considered his other leader in this process.

Martin’s measurements are 5-foot-11, 207 pounds, and he reportedly runs a 4.71 40 according to Rivals. Martin’s Hudl page tells a different story: he weighs 220 pounds and runs a 4.50, which may only look like about two-tenths of a second but it is a significant difference. If the latter, then yes, he’s relatively fast for a linebacker.

It would appear that Jimmy Martin has also played some fullback, which is not so unusual for some of the linebackers we have seen in recent times.

In the game film, not that he is being compared to Luke Kuechly, but there is a hint of that heat-seeking missile quality about him. He does look fast in real time, showing nice closing speed on some of the tackles he makes. You can never have enough of that in your linebacking corps, and those are endearing traits.

We weclome Jimmy to the Heights. Will he be the last we welcome today? Stay tuned.
