(3) STG: Back to matters of the ACC, how do you feel about the Louisville/Maryland swap? Do you think the Cardinals joining up will make ACC football more interesting?
Visser: This was a great move. CBS Sports recently released a poll of the top athletic programs across major sports. FSU was fourth. Louisville was third (the ACC’s best showings). The only issue I have is that they further stack the ACC Atlantic, while the Coastal continues to languish.
I also like the fact that this addition adds another big city to the conference, which makes it a more appealing road trip for fans of ACC teams. And they bring a ravenous fan base to the table as well. The last time FSU played at Louisville, the Cardinals upset Florida State in 2002. Their fans were insane, and I think that this stems from the fact that Kentucky is really the only southern state without any real football hope. UK proves unable to do anything year after year, and given Louisville’s last two bowl wins over Florida and Miami, respectively, I think there’s a real excitement for fall along the banks of the Ohio River.
