8. February 13, 2014: Georgia Tech Defeats Boston College, 74-71

Otherwise known here as the “Timeout Game.”

With 3.4 seconds left in regulation, Olivier Hanlan made a jump shot to give the Eagles a 71-70 lead over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Jackets, out of timeouts, had no time to set up their final play.

That is, until Steve Donahue gave it to them. He called a timeout on defense while Brian Gregory drew up the play. Georgia Tech came right down the court and made a three while being fouled with 0.7 seconds remaining in the game. The Jackets would go on to win, 74-71.

The scourge of overcoaching was on full display in Atlanta this night.
