2013 Boston College Football Unit Preview: Linebackers

Boston College football has had a reputation as “O-Line U,” but if anything, it has lately been stocked with linebackers. In the last five years or so, this has been the unit about which we’ve had the least to worry. That looks like it will be the case once again in 2013; even though BC has lost its top tackler in Nick Clancy, what typically happens is that someone from this group rises up to fill the void.
Simply put, you could do a lot worse than BC’s starting linebackers.
2013 BC Football Unit Preview: Sam Linebacker
The Starter
Kevin Pierre-Louis, senior
Pierre-Louis enters this season on multiple watch lists for defensive players. Many will be looking to him as one of the leaders of the defense, and if he is able to avoid injury, he may be near the top of the team in tackles. There’s not much questioning of his football ability and he will start all season.
The Backup
Josh Keyes, junior
Keyes has played in the secondary (and at running back in high school) but was listed as a linebacker to start last season and is on the two-deep at SLB now. He’s an athletic, versatile player that, as we’ve seen in the past, can level some big hits. Keyes could do well here.
