Boston College Baseball in the Pros: 2012
By Joe Micik
Terry Doyle
Left BC: 2008
Current assignment: Charlotte Knights (Class AAA, Chicago White Sox)
Doyle has advanced to Triple-A for the first time in his career, receiving a promotion from Double-A Birmingham prior to the 2012 season. In Charlotte, he has started three games and is 0-1 with a 4.96 ERA. Some of his other metrics are good, striking out 16 in 16.1 IP with only four walks allowed.
He is not on the 40-man roster of the Chicago White Sox at this time.
Dan Houston
Left BC: 2008
Current assignment: Tulsa Drillers (Class AA, Colorado Rockies)
Houston is now in his second season, first full, at Tulsa playing Double-A ball for the Tulsa Drillers. 2012 has not been kind to him statistically, however, as Houston is 1-2 in three starts with a 6.19 ERA. He has pitched 16 innings, allowed 16 hits, walked seven and struck out six while the league is hitting .271 off of him.
Dave Laufer
Left BC: 2011
Current assignment: Hudson Valley Renegades (Class A-Short, Tampa Bay Rays)
Class A-Short Season ball has not started yet, but Laufer is currently assigned to the Hudson Valley Renegades in Fishkill, NY, just a short drive from STG Headquarters. (But I won’t be showing up at the ballpark to watch him play as I am perpetually boycotting the Renegades organization; long story.) Anyway, he played in Dutchess County late last season and went 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA in 17 games out of the bullpen.
John Leonard
Left BC: 2011
Current assignment: AZL Angels (Rookie Class, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim)
As previously mentioned, the rookie season won’t begin for about another two months, give or take, but John Leonard is assigned to the Arizona League’s Angels.
The right-handed pitcher’s season — and professional baseball career, for that matter — will begin in Tempe, AZ.
Drew Locke
Left BC: 2005
Current assignment: None
Locke most recently played for the Triple-A Oklahoma City RedHawks, affiliate of the Houston Astros, but he filed for free agency at the end of the 2011 season and has yet to be signed by a new organization.
Last season, Locke hit .264 with 11 home runs and 58 RBI.
