2014 Boston College Football Special Teams: Punters

When Alex Howell was moved from split duty to focusing more on his punting, the results actually got better for him. Imagine that, special teams coaches. <p>Howell was not the best punter in the ACC, but rarely did he get a bad one off, and he helped preserve the field position battle for the Eagles. His performance was consistent and effective.</p> <p>Alex Howell had 21 of his 65 punts inside the opponent’s 20 yard line, and also managed 15 punts of 50 yards or more. Boston College did not often find their offense pinned back to their goal line, meaning those big boomers were not always necessary, but he could occasionally hit one. His season long was 62 yards.</p> <p>Of course, he did also have a punt blocked, yet overall the results here were fine. At least in this function, Howell had a fine year.</p>. P. 2014 Boston College Football Special Teams: P Stats

Howell punted for a grand total of 2,764 yards last season, with an average of 42.5 yards per punt. The latter was 6th-best in the ACC.

He had just four touchbacks the whole season in those 65 attempts plus the one block, while drawing 16 fair catches by opponents.
