Former Boston College Eagles hockey stars Johnny Gaudreau and Kevin Hayes have wasted no time getting to work in the National Hockey League.

More from Hockey

With both of them only playing in their first full seasons — Gaudreau in Calgary with the Flames and Hayes in New York with the Rangers — the playing time is there and the improvements are coming for these maroon and gold rookies.

Johnny Gaudreau has appeared in 27 games for Calgary so far this year, and is currently on a four-game points streak. It’s nowhere near his Hockey East record-tying 31, but it’s a start. He only has five goals on the year, but has piled up 16 assists for 21 points. That makes him tied for third on the Calgary Flames in points, which is not a bad place to be.

Gaudreau also boasts a plus/minus rating of +10, third-best on the team, and has tied the team lead with two game-winning goals this season. All that winning he did at Boston College taught him a thing or two about how to get the job done.

As for Kevin Hayes, for the sake of continuity amongst Eagles, he is also on a four-game points streak. Just last night, Hayes scored what turned out to be a big third goal for the New York Rangers:

What a move it was as well. Some asked if he was making those pretty plays back on the Heights, and we know the answer. He and Johnny Gaudreau were two-thirds of the best line in Boston College history, and that’s saying a lot considering how many good lines there have been.

Gaudreau is getting the big minutes and is putting up points. Hayes is learning the Alain Vigneault system but has come on strong lately. Both figure to be fixtures in their new homes for years to come.
