ACC Football Week 12: Bowl-Off

The Tar Heels won what was most likely a bowl-eligibility playoff game on Saturday down in Chapel Hill.

North Carolina’s defense was again an abomination, allowing 523 total yards, including a 220-yard performance by James Conner, but it was the Pittsburgh defense that blinked late in another heartbreaking loss for the Panthers.

UNC scored the game-winning touchdown with 50 seconds left after a 13-play drive.

For North Carolina, it was not the season they intended to have from the outset, but they will have at least one more winnable game against NC State, and could ride that to the Belk Bowl or something similar.

As for Pittsburgh, a team that started the season 3-0, it does not look like they will be going bowling themselves. Given that they have lost six of seven, it seems likely that they will lose to either Syracuse or Miami, probably the latter. Pitt wasted another great performance by Conner and will need to win out to salvage their season.
