Losing to UConn in Hartford just two nights ago, the Eagles have little choice but to rebound against their arch rivals from down Commonwealth Avenue, but the visitors will not make it easy. Boston University’s Terriers, a truly awful team last season in their first year under Dave Quinn, have turned things around and now have a top five team nationally.
A big part of why the Terriers have turned things around is Jack Eichel, a freshman who is a projected first-round NHL draft pick in 2015. Eichel is second in the conference right now with nine points (4-5-9), while his teammate Danny O’Regan, a San Jose prospect, is close behind with seven.
Meanwhile, a far cry from where Boston College was last season with Johnny Gaudreau, Kevin Hayes, and Bill Arnold, who were three of the nation’s top five scorers, the Eagles have only one player — Ryan Fitzgerald — in the Hockey East top 25 in points so far.
Especially in the prolonged absence of defenseman Steve Santini, Boston College will need a big game from goalie Thatcher Demko as they seek to slow down the streaking Terriers.
