Boston College has been looking for playmakers on defense following the departures of Kasim Edebali and Kaleb Ramsey, amongst others, and the loss of lineman Mehdi Abdesmad due to another injury.

On Saturday against the NC State Wolfpack, defensive end Brian Mihalik was that guy.

Mihalik was honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference following his performance, being named ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week. Amongst his highlights last weekend was an interception early in the second half against Jacoby Brissett, just moments before an hour-long lightning delay.

Boston College is going to need more of this sort of thing from Brian Mihalik as ACC play continues to ramp up and the defense looks for leaders. What he did on Saturday was a good start and the kind of performance Steve Addazio likes to see, but with any luck, it will not be an isolated incident.

So far this season, Mihalik has 15 tackles, including three and a half tackles for a loss and three and a half sacks, in addition to that 21-yard interception return. Last year, as a starter in four games and player in all 13, Brian Mihalik totaled 27 tackles, including two sacks and two forced fumbles.

Unlike the Colorado State game several weeks ago, the Eagles clamped down on defense and sealed the deal against NC State by keeping their run game alive.
