Tonight at the Tsongas Center, there will be no trip to the Frozen Four at stake, but neither team wants to start at 0-1.
The #4 Eagles are ready to roll with their new-look team against the #17 River Hawks as both schools open their 2014-15 seasons, as well as start Hockey East play.
Boston College Hockey at UMass-Lowell Gameday:
Dearly Departed
As a matter of fact, both teams are now missing some key faces from their previous editions.
UMass-Lowell is permanently down their star goalie, Connor Hellebuyck, who has moved on to professional hockey, while forward Joe Pendenza is also out of Lowell for good following his graduation.
Boston College’s losses are bigger. The Eagles had a spectacular line last season of Johnny Gaudreau, Bill Arnold, and Kevin Hayes, totaling 198 points in 40 total games. For the mathematically challenged, that first line averaged about five points per game. Two of them are now on NHL opening-day rosters, and the third is hoping to work his way back soon.
Notably, Patrick Brown, now a Carolina Hurricane, is also out of the program and into the NHL.
