Sporting News: Boston College Football in 2014 Military Bowl
By Joe Micik
The way-too-early Sporting News bowl projections have slotted the Boston College Eagles in the 2014 Military Bowl.
Thus spoke Bill Bender of Sporting News:
"Military Bowl: Cincinnati vs. Boston College"
The Cincinnati Bearcats would be Boston College’s opposition in this theoretical 2014 Military Bowl between the ACC and AAC. The Eagles and Bearcats have played each other seven times throughout history, with the last meeting having been in 1997 (a 24-6 loss). Boston College holds a 4-3 advantage.
This is not a preview of a bowl game six months from now, nor is it an iron-clad guarantee of anything. It does speak to the variety of opinions about the Boston College Eagles in their upcoming 2014 season. Bender and Sporting News clearly give Boston College enough credit to assume they will make a postseason contest again. Paul Myerberg seemed more on the fence, but gave the Eagles a credible shot. Others contended that it would be a “miracle” for the Eagles to make a bowl game. That opinion is not shared by all.
As we approach the 2014 college football season, with the 2014 Military Bowl (or any bowl) a long way way, there is a sense that this team’s bowl eligibility could come down to the wire. The schedule begins favorably but increases in difficulty near the end. Barring a disaster, the building Boston College consensus is that the Eagles do at the very least have a chance to make a bowl, whatever it may be.
I still have my “Military Bowl or Bust” beer koozie from fellow bloggers at Heights and Lows. Perhaps this is the year.
