The second round of the 2014 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs has opened with quite a roar, as the Montreal Canadiens took the Boston Bruins to double overtime right down the road at the TD Garden and won, 4-3. That was not what many people around these parts wanted to see, but after all this is a running series about former Boston College Eagles scoring points in the playoffs, and last night, we did have one.
That, of course, would be the only Eagle on either team in Game 1: Montreal captain Brian Gionta. He assisted on the Habs’ third goal, which came a little over half-way through the third period to (at the time) give Montreal a 3-2 lead. Their captain was +2 for the evening.
Tonight, the second round continues as an Eagle-heavy series begins between the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins. Later on, Ben Smith’s Chicago Blackhawks will host the Minnesota Wild in their Western Conference meeting.
