The first round of the 2014 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs is nearing its conclusion, and the points totals continue to rise for those who formerly wore maroon and gold for the Boston College Eagles.
On Sunday, the New York Rangers moved to within one game of advancing as they defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 5, 4-2. One ex-Eagle, Brian Boyle, scored a goal in that contest for his first of the playoffs. Meanwhile, his current teammate, former Boston College standout Chris Kreider, is reportedly skating in practice but still cannot shoot the puck as he recovers from a broken hand suffered several weeks ago.
Elsewhere in the league, Ben Smith’s Chicago Blackhawks advanced to the second round of the playoffs after their 5-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues, coming back from an 0-2 deficit to take the series. Smith scored a goal in Game 5 of that series on Friday night for his first tally of the 2014 postseason. He did not notch the score sheet on Sunday afternoon, but Smith will get more chances in the days ahead.
