Each game in the 2014 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs becomes more meaningful than the last, and it is still comforting to know that Boston College Eagles continue to have a say in how things develop.
A new name was added to the list of ex-Eagles who have dented the score sheet in the 2014 NHL Playoffs. That would be Ben Smith of the Chicago Blackhawks, who found themselves in a crucial Game 5 against the St. Louis Blues in the city with the Arch.
April 25 Goals
(6) Ben Smith, Chicago Blackhawks
17:10 2nd period, assisted by Sheldon Brookbank and Patrick Kane
At the time, Smith’s shot would give the Blackhawks a 2-1 lead in the game. They would not hold it, as (surprise surprise) the game ended up in overtime.
So far, we know for certain that Brian Gionta’s Montreal Canadiens are through to the second round, most likely on their way to playing the hometown favorite Boston Bruins.
Meanwhile, Chris Kreider remains sidelined for the New York Rangers as Brian Boyle and company lost Game 4 to the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday night, with their series now tied at 2-2 heading back to the Garden.
The Eagle-heavy Pittsburgh Penguins will play Saturday night against Cam Atkinson’s Columbus Blue Jackets.
