They’re back!

For one day, I mean, but it’s the closest we’re going to come to Boston College Eagles football for the next four and a half months.

The Eagles take to the field at Alumni Stadium on Saturday at noon for their annual Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Game, named in honor of a late Eagle who lost his battle to cancer over 20 years ago.

All Bostonians remember why this annual event did not take place in 2013, but there are no inhibitions today, by weather or otherwise.

Some names we’ll be watching during the spring game include Tyler Murphy and Darius Wade, two of the frontrunners for the starting quarterback position. Murphy is the senior Florida Gators transfer who is seen by some as a potential transitional signal-caller towards Wade, possibly the “quarterback of the future” for the program. Eagles fans will also perhaps get their first up-close look at defensive end Harold Landry, touted by some as the best recruit in what looks to be a good class for Boston College.
