We’ve all been tourists at one point or another in our lives. Shreveport may be a city that Boston College Eagles fans will be visiting for the first time around New Year’s Eve, but one would hope they’ll make the most of it and not just hide in their hotel rooms save for the football game. If you plan to attend the 2013 AdvoCare V100 Bowl, there are several things to do in this historic city.

Sci-Port: Louisiana’s Science Center

This is a football trip, but science is all around us. You could check out Sci-Port for its many exhibits, planetarium, and IMAX movies. If you’re taking kids along for the ride, this is probably as good of an option as you’re going to get.

Casinos

If you’re not taking kids, well, here you go. A recent review named the Eldorado Resort Casino, Sam’s Town, and Boomtown Casino as some of your best options, though there are others in the area on both sides of the Red River. Remember, always double-down if you’ve got 11 showing.

8th Air Force Museum

The Shreveport region is known for being the home to Barksdale Air Force Base, so of course they have a museum. If military history and/or aviation is your bag, head on up to Barksdale to check out their Air Force Museum. This is another one of those things that the kids might enjoy, especially if they like planes.

Louisiana State Exhibit Museum

This one is easy because it’s right near Independence Stadium. TripAdvisor describes it as “focusing on historical artifacts and works of art indigenous to northwest Louisiana; this museum also showcases a Native American exhibit.” The reviews are good and it’s fairly close to where you’ll end up, anyway.
