When we first found out that Boston College got its 23rd commitment, we really didn’t know that much about Allen Dawson. Heck, we didn’t even know where he was from for the first couple of hours! Well since then the reviews have come in and surprisingly he has been highly rated for such an unknown player. His recruitment clearly shows the drive of first year head football coach Steve Addazio to get diamonds out of the rough.

To get you caught up, Allen Dawson played his first four years of high school in Florida, however he felt he needed an extra boost to his college recruitment and took a postgraduate year at the Cheshire Academy in Connecticut.

Well, all of the recruiting services are seeming to give the guy good ratings.

Here are excerpts from  ESPN’s scouting report:

"Long and tall. Top end speed is very competitive given his height. Shows very good pass/run key and diagnosis reaction skills…does a nice job chasing down and saving touchdown plays both run and pass.Does a nice job of reading routes, planting and breaking up on underneath throws. Possesses the burst to close underneath or make up ground on deep over the top throws. However, ball skills are suspect. Is involved in a lot of pass break ups, but does not consistently catch the football.Quick to read closed formation blocking schemes. Demonstrates the ability to drive through and wrap up in the open field without allowing cheap yards after contact.Dawson is a corner that looks and plays like a safety…does have many intriguing traits and an instinctive feel for the game. Looks to be a lower end BCS prospect."

Even if Dawson is a “lower end BCS prospect” does not invalidate Coach Addazio’s reasons for extending him an offer. Boston College needs defensive backs especially with safeties Sean Sylvia and Dominique Williams entering their senior year in 2014.
