Boston College Eagles men’s basketball has received votes in the AP Poll for the first time in almost three years.
In the 2013-14 preseason AP Poll, Boston College received five votes and is 41st overall to start the new season. The last time the Eagles received any votes in this survey was December 27, 2010, three seasons ago.
This is a preseason poll, so take that for what it’s worth, but this is not a completely insignificant development. For one thing, this acknowledges that some media types out there think the Eagles will indeed return to respectability this season. Also, even though these are just five votes, this combined with the ACC preseason poll which had the Eagles in the middle of an excellent conference shows that for the first time in years, there are some expectations.
The goal this year is to make the tournament, and it is one of which they are capable. Next year, however, that goal will be much more imperative.
Are expectations for the Eagles, though relatively reasonable, too high, too low, or just right? In a week, we will begin to find out.
