Virginia Tech at Boston College: 5 Big Questions
By Joe Micik
2. Both Logan Thomas and Chase Rettig have taken some criticism this year, but which has been better?
You may have wondered this, and it’s not completely fair to compare the two. Chase Rettig is averaging 21.6 pass attempts per game this season and Thomas is averaging 32.4. Thomas is being counted on to lead his offense a lot more than Rettig is, while Boston College is angling towards becoming a power-run team.
Believe it or not, by the numbers, Logan Thomas is actually having a better season this year than last year, though he’ll almost certainly throw a few less touchdowns unless he can get back on-pace.
As for Rettig, the disappointment is natural given that he’s made some mistakes this year, but there are two things to keep in mind: the offense does not truly rest on his arm anymore and he has not turned the ball over often. He won’t come close to replicating last year’s 3,000+ passing yards, but Rettig’s season hasn’t been as dismal as we’ve made it sound as times. Thomas, on the other hand, is being called on to do more that Rettig and has not been great.
