Junior forward Johnny Gaudreau and sophomore defenseman Mike Matheson were named on Tuesday morning to the Hockey East 2013-14 preseason team.
The Hockey East media chose the two Eagles for the six-player team, with Boston College being the only school to have more than one player named. Other players named to the preseason team are Merrimack’s Mike Collins, UMass-Lowell’s Joseph Pendenza, New Hampshire’s Trevor van Riemsdyk, and Providence goalie Jon Gillies. Gaudreau was reportedly the only unanimous selection.
Furthermore, the conference’s preseason poll was released on Tuesday morning, and Boston College hockey is expected by the media to finish second in Hockey East behind UMass-Lowell. The River Hawks received 26 of 37 first-place votes, while the Eagles got eight.
Newcomers Notre Dame are just behind the Eagles in third place, followed by Providence, New Hampshire, Boston University, Merrimack, Maine, Vermont, UMass, and Northeastern.
