Boston College Football Countdown: 16 Days to Go
By Joe Micik
Just 16 days to go until Boston College football and it sure is sweet.
Who Wears 16 Now
Douglas Jones-USA TODAY Sports
Mike Marscovetra, QB, senior
Marscovetra is a fifth-year senior who is currently competing for the backup quarterback position. His shining moment in an Eagles uniform came in the 2010 spring football game, where he tore up the competition from his own team. Live games have not been as kind, but it’s been a long time since he’s played in a meaningful situation, and perhaps there is a reason he is being considered for the second spot behind Chase Rettig.
In his Eagles career, he is 48-for-81 with four touchdowns and five interceptions. Marscovetra did not appear in any games last season.
Notables Who Wore 16
• Brian Toal, LB, 2004-08. “First and Toal.”
• Greg Toal, FB, 2000-03. His older brother.
• Tom Waddle, WR, 1985-88. NFL Network analyst.
• Joe Marzetti, QB, 1966-68. Featured in this Heights blast from the past.
Sweet 16
In the 2000 season, Tim Hasselbeck threw for a career-high 16 touchdowns.
Bitter 16
Vanderbilt scored 16 against the Eagles in the 2008 Music City Bowl, and that would unfortunately be all they needed.
Victory
Brian St. Pierre won 16 games as the starting quarterback for Boston College (16-9 record).
Lifetime Achievement
WR Jamal Burke (1999-2002) finished his Eagles career with 16 touchdown receptions, making him fifth on the all-time list.
Kiwi and The Freezer
No, not a bad 80s “buddy cop” show; rather, Mathias Kiwanuka and BJ Raji. Each had 16-TFL seasons: Kiwanuka in 2003 and Raji in 2008.
Just Tackles
Last season, Kieran Borcich and Jaryd Rudolph each registered 16 tackles.
And We Thought The Last Few Years Were Tough
The 1910 Boston College Eagles scored 16 points…the entire season. They only played six games, but that goes to show you that old-time football would be considered unwatchable to modern audiences.
Connections
Chase Rettig threw 16 completions last season on three separate occasions: against Maine, Army, and NC State.
