The Boston College Eagles football season begins 26 days from today. It probably isn’t too early to start planning your tailgate for the opener. Speaking of, I’ll be at one. Give me free food and I’ll be forever in your debt.

Who Wears 26 Now

Dudeck played last year as a true freshman and got some time at running back for the Eagles. He finished with 41 carries for 116 yards and a touchdown, while also catching 21 passes for 155 yards and another touchdown. Prior to his arrival at Boston College, Dudeck was named New Jersey Prep School Player of the Year.

He is presently listed as the backup at running back behind senior Andre Williams.

Notables Who Wore 26

Mike Esposito, HB, 1972-74. One of the best Eagles running backs of all-time.
Marcus Cherry, FL, 1986-89. Went off to NFL Europe briefly.
Shalom Tolefree, DB, 1994-97. Described by BC Athletics as “rock ’em-sock ’em” player.

Johnathan Coleman scored 26 points last season, making him third on the team behind Nate Freese and Alex Amidon.

Ball Carrying

Rolandan Finch set a team high last year with 26 carries in a single game (Virginia Tech).

The 26th of December

Boston College football has played two bowl games on 12/26, the day after Christmas: the 2002 Motor City Bowl and the 2009 Emerald Bowl. BC won the first of those two.

The Year Was ’26…

1926 was head coach Frank Cavanaugh’s final year as BC head coach; he would later be elected to the College Football Hall of Fame.

Boston College quarterback Charlie O’Rourke, leader of the Eagles team which won the Sugar Bowl, and running back Mike Holovak were both on teams that won 26 games during their times. O’Rourke’s teams went 26-3-2 and Holovak’s were 26-5.
