Who Wears 46 Now

Sean Burke, LB, redshirt freshman

Burke moved into this number during his redshirt season of 2012. He apparently signed with the team during last season, according to 24/7, which would most likely make him a walk-on.

Previously, Burke played for La Salle College High School in Pennsylvania.

Notables Who Wore 46

Johnny Ayers, P, 2004-07. One of Boston College’s all-time best punters.
Ryan Quigley, P, 2008-11. Another very familiar face at punter.
Brian Maye, LB, 1993, 1996-98. 1998 team captain; involved in that thing in ’96 we won’t mention.

Aloha

En route to winning the 1994 Jeep Aloha Bowl, Mark Hartsell hit Kenyatta Watson for a crucial 46-yard game which set up a field goal which ended up putting K-State away.

One of the Greats

Art Donovan, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, war hero, and one of the titans of old-time football, began his Boston College playing career in ’46.

Random Fact

Grant Adams had a 46-reception season in 2003, while longtime Eagles figure Barry Gallup did the same thing earlier in 1968.

Through the Uprights

Two Boston College kickers, John Matich and Sandro Sciortino, both connected on 46 field goal attempts and are tied for fourth in BC history as such.

Tacking On One More

The BC record for PATs by a kicker in a season is 46, done twice. You may not be surprised to learn that those seasons were 1984 (Kevin Snow) and 2007 (Steve Aponavicius).

Going After The Ball

The Eagles’ program record for turnovers forced in a season was set in 1979 when they collected 46 of them.

But How Was The ’46 Season?

That Boston College team went 6-3 under the leadership of coach Denny Myers. It was the coach’s first season, in which he beat Alabama one week and lost to Holy Cross the next. Go figure.
