Boston College Football Countdown: 50 Days to Go
By Joe Micik
We’re half-way there: 50 days behind us on the Boston College Eagles football countdown, and 50 days to go.
Who Wears 50 Now
Frank Taylor, OL, redshirt freshman
Taylor is a Pennsylvania native who was part of the recruiting entry class of 2012. He sat out last season and now may get a chance to back up on the offensive line.
Taylor was named to the prestigious “Big 33” team for the best high school players in Pennsylvania while wrapping up high school.
Notables Who Wore 50
• Gene Goodreault, RE, 1938-40. College Football Hall of Famer.
• Stephen Boyd, LB, 1991-94. 1994 team captain; held the BC tackle record until Luke Kuechly broke it.
• Clifford Poirier, C, 1952-54, 1958. Left BC for the military; returned and played professionally.
• Will Thompson, LB, 2008-11. Handled a mic for the erstwhile Ice Jams at Conte Forum.
Bending and Breaking
Last season, the defense allowed third-down conversions at a 50% clip; this was fifth from the bottom (116th) in FBS. Save us, Don Brown.
Random Fact
Over the course of their 12-game season, the Eagles scored a total of 50 points in both the third and fourth quarters. Relatively speaking, that’s not a lot. Save us, Ryan Day.
Goose Egg
In the ’50 season, the Eagles went 0-9-1. This wretched team’s only non-loss was in Week 1 against Wake Forest — a 7-7 tie.
