Boston College Football Countdown: 55 Days to Go
By Joe Micik

The countdown to Boston College Eagles football kickoff hits double nickels today as there are just 55 days to go.
Who Wears 55 Now
Kieran Borcich, RDT, sophomore
Borcich was a coveted recruit from New York who now plays right defensive tackle for the Eagles. As a redshirt freshman last season, he got into eight games, starting three of them, and totaled 16 tackles.
At the end of the season, he was second on the two-deep at DT to Bryan Murray, who has since graduated. With Max Ricci also gone, it may be that Borcich will start full-time in 2013, though there is a drop of 35 pounds from Borcich to the man he is replacing.
Notables Who Wore 55
• Damik Scafe, DT , 2007-10. Now playing for the San Diego Chargers.
• Ricky Brown, LB, 2002-05. Was on the Baltimore Ravens’ Super Bowl champion team in February.
• John Galvin, LB, 1984-87. NFL special teams standout.
Not Just A Pass Receiver
Alex Amidon had approximately 1.4 million receiving yards last season, but he also netted 55 rushing yards on four attempts.
Speaking of Passes
Glenn Foley completed his at a 55% rate during his Boston College career.
Speaking of Receivers
Pete Mitchell made 55 catches during the 1994 season, and it wasn’t even his best season (66 the year before).
It’s Got The Distance
The longest field goal kick in Boston College football history is a 55-yarder, made by Fred Steinfort in 1974 against Tulane. Our current field goal kicker, Nate Freese, has a career high just three yards shy of that.
Enjoy It While It Lasts
Boston College was briefly ranked in 1955, having been #17 in the nation while playing Marquette. That game ended in a tie, and the Eagles would not play another game as a ranked team for 21 years.
