December 29, 2012: Jerry York wins his 925th game
We waited a few weeks longer than we expected, and the milestone victory came far away, but the best moment in BC sports this year was achieved by a great Eagle and a great man.
On December 29, the Eagles played Alabama-Huntsville in men’s hockey in Minneapolis as part of a mid-season tournament. When the clock ran out, head coach Jerry York had won his 925th career game, breaking the all-time record set by former Michigan State coach Ron Mason.
Jerry York Night may have been cancelled twice due to unforeseen circumstances, but it will happen next season, and it is well deserved. York is a winner in real life and on the ice; it is an honor to list his accomplishment as BC’s best sports moment of the year.
