Head coach Steve Addazio may not have been able to hold his Boston College spring football game on Saturday, but he didn’t come away empty-handed this weekend: he got a new commitment.

That young man is Jon Baker, an offensive guard for Millis High School in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Class of 2014 recruit’s measurements are 6-foot-3 and 300 lbs. The commitment was reported by 24/7 and the Boston Herald’s high school section, and it makes him the sixth to join the fast-growing class.

Baker had several FCS offers, including Holy Cross and Yale, but in addition to Boston College, he held FBS offers from Michigan State, UConn, UMass, Ohio, and Temple. The major recruiting services have him as a three-star commit.

This is a victory for Boston College in several ways. First, the 2014 recruiting class is already up to six players, which is about as many as one will find out there at this point in time. Second, they’ve gotten themselves what looks to be another fine offensive lineman as they try to replenish the school’s reputation as “O-Line U.” Finally, Addazio and company have successfully kept another local talent in the area. Baker is the second Massachusetts commit and the third from New England.
