Miami at Boston College: 5 Big Questions

2. Can Chase Rettig start off the season on a good note?

I think he can, but I don’t know that he will. It’s been said several times here: this is his season in which to sink or swim. His offensive line must help him out of course, but these are no longer scrimmages where you’re throwing touchdown bombs against your own team.

Rettig got off to a slow start last season, and we’ll have to wait and see if that will or won’t be the case here. I still want to believe that deep down, there’s a talented and poised quarterback ready to erupt, but if he doesn’t take a step forward this season, he probably never will. With that said, BC started winning games last season when they stopped leaning on him so much, including the Miami game in which he only threw 17 passes (meanwhile, BC rushed 50 times and controlled time of possession).

Most likely, the less he is asked to do, the better he will look to us.
