101 Days of BC Football: Donte Elliott, #30

When you’ve got about 90 guys on a roster, 22 starters and 22 backups, not everyone is going to make the two-deep. Such is the case with Donte Elliott, one of the seniors on Boston College’s football team.

From Houston, Texas, Elliott is listed by Boston College as a wide receiver, and indeed, he played the position last season. In ten games, he caught four passes for 33 yards and had a three-yard rushing play also to his credit. Previously, however, Elliott was used defensively. After having redshirted the 2008 season under Jeff Jagodzinski, Donte Elliott made his first collegiate appearance in 2009 under Frank Spaziani against Northeastern, in which he recorded a fourth-quarter tackle.

Did I mention that he also played special teams in 2011? He recorded five tackles on the season in those ten appearances, making him one of only a handful of guys on the team last year who had both all-purpose yards and tackles recorded.

Elliott appeared to make one impact play over the course of spring football this year, catching a 40-yard touchdown pass by Josh Bordner in the second scrimmage.

What does the future hold for Elliott? It’s tough to say. Unfortunately, I don’t suspect his role on the offense will become that much more prominent, but he has carved out a niche for himself in playing special teams.

I do believe he will have passes coming his way here and there, but it’ll probably be a low number like what he managed in 2011. Still, he does have a function on the team with specials, and he can make a few tackles for you.
