Afternoon Quickie: Women’s Hockey Ties NU; Fletcher to Senior Bowl

The #4 women’s hockey team played host to the #7 Northeastern Huskies in a Hockey East contest on Tuesday night, and they skated to a 1-1 tie. The ladies are now 16-2-2 (9-2-2) on the season.

Northeastern struck first with a second-period goal, but the Eagles struck last, and the tie was preserved throughout. Goalie Corinne Boyles had 40 saves out of 41 Husky shots on goal.

Their next game is Friday night, also at home, against Providence.

As a number of people expected around Boston College, senior corner Donnie Fletcher has been invited to play for the North team in the 2012 Senior Bowl on January 28.

Fletcher figures to go late in the NFL Draft if he goes at all, so a good Senior Bowl (and the practices which take place beforehand) could go a long way to impressing some scouts and securing his position a bit.

As with last year, NFL mock draft roundups featuring all of the prominent seven-round mocks will begin soon, and we will see precisely where he and Luke Kuechly fall at the moment.

More on the Akeel Lynch decommit from yesterday:

"Lynch, who committed to the Eagles in the summer, said he committed early because he initially wasn’t sure how much interest he would have. As more teams have offered him, he said he has wanted to look around."

Translation: BC was his safety school, but once better programs came knocking, ditching BC was a no-brainer.

I don’t begrudge the kid; it is merely a sad commentary about our program having difficulty holding in a recruit like him. This problem may yet be magnified with a few other recruits looking like soft commits at best.
