Boston College at Notre Dame: 5 Big Questions
By Joe Micik
1. Who needs to come up bigger: the BC offense or the BC defense?
I’m sure I probably lost some of you here, but bear with me. You’re thinking “but the defense has been better than the offense!!!!!11” I know, and you’re right. BC’s offense is absolutely abysmal, and unfortunately, I don’t think all the wishful thinking in the world will make that change this season. We can hope and cross our fingers that they’ll go up and down the field on Notre Dame all day, but let’s face it, it’s not going to happen.
Now ask yourself, how did BC win games last year, and how did they beat NC State? Defense. The Eagles won a lot of low-scoring games last season because the defense came up big while the offense just went on and did their thing, whatever that is.
The Eagles are probably only good for about 14 points. That’s not an arbitrary number; that’s pretty close to their FBS average. Notre Dame’s offense is formidable, so the defense is going to have to have a tremendous game just to keep their team in it. It will be up to them.
