Some would call the 2011-2012 season for the Boston College Eagles men’s basketball team a rebuilding year. It may instead be more apt to call it a rebooting year.

Many outside the program, however, are forecasting it as a disastrous year. Using what happened to a revamped Wake Forest team as a guide, expectations of as few as zero ACC wins and fewer than eight wins overall have been floating all around, much to the angst of BC fans. More on the predictions later.

Previous articles over the course of 2011, particularly following the conclusion of the winter sports season, assessed the turnover on both the men’s hockey team and the men’s basketball team. The hockey team has nine new faces on it this year, which may make it seem pretty different. The basketball team, however, literally IS different. It may take Boston College basketball fans a few moments to realize what they’re seeing out on the court and that these guys you’ve never seen before (except maybe at the Ice Jam) are your team. No, “Snap Boogie” is not here. Reggie Jackson, Joe Trapani, Corey Raji, Biko Paris, and the rest of the 2010-11 seniors are all gone. Our go-to player, possibly someone like Patrick Heckmann or Matt Humphrey, has yet to play a single minute of basketball for Boston College. It’s going to take fans time to adapt with this sort of massive change, just like it’s going to take the new guys time to adapt to playing at the collegiate level and for BC.
