Eagles Weekend in Review, Oct. 28, and A Word on Passion for BC

Men’s hockey: Boston College sweeps UMass-Lowell, 4-2 and 6-3
It was a very good weekend for the men’s ice hockey team — what else is new. On Friday night, as covered in an earlier post, the Eagles beat UMass-Lowell at the Tsongas Center, 4-2. On Saturday night, they beat the River Hawks 6-3 at Conte Forum’s Kelley Rink.
I was completely, and literally, in the dark for the second game, so I cannot add any further comment on it. The likely outcome is that the Eagles will retain their #1 ranking for a fourth-straight week, seeing as how they are now 7-1 (5-0 Hockey East) and have a two-point lead over also-perfect Merrimack in the early going.
Has it been through sheer and utter domination of each opponent? Sometimes, but not always. Boston College, by others’ accounts, not even mine, has seemed to sleepwalk through games at times, accumulating too many penalties and not generating enough shots on goal (as was the case in the first UML game). Over the course of the season, that’s going to happen to everyone. The good news is that the Eagles are winning regardless of those analyses, and with any luck, they will continue to win games even if they are not dominating.
