Boston College at Maryland: 5 Big Questions with Terrapin Station
By Joe Micik
3.) Defense appears to have been an issue too, as the Terps have allowed 97 points in the last two games against high-powered teams. Given BC’s offensive ineffectiveness, do you expect a better performance on Saturday, or will the Eagles be able to move the ball for a change?
Terrapin Station: To be honest, anything can happen with these two units. I’m always excited when Chase Rettig comes to town, and Maryland’s defense has had some good quarters. They’ve been unable to put that together for a full game (even against Towson the Tigers dropped a boatload of wide open passes that could have gone for touchdowns), so even the Eagles could put up points. The Terps’ secondary is awful, blowing assignments and missing tackles, and the linebacking corps is extremely young and injury-riddled. The saving grace is the defensive line, which has been very good so far this season – in pass rushing. Against the run, they’ve been terrible, so Finch/Williams/whomever should have a fine time.
If there’s a game on Maryland’s schedule that the Terps can put it together on defense, I’m sorry to say it’s BC. I wouldn’t bet on it (the scheme is really that bad), but they have a lot of talent in their front seven.
