Boston College at Virginia Tech: 5 Big Questions
By Joe Micik
2.) What’s the drop-off from Tyrod Taylor to Logan Thomas?
Again, it really isn’t all that much. If it’s anywhere, it is in terms of the dual threat — Taylor rushed for 659 yards last season in addition to throwing for 2743 in 14 games; Thomas may get around that number in passing yards if he continues playing as he has played (he averages a few more per game), but he won’t come close to Taylor’s rushing totals from last season. This isn’t to say Thomas is incapable of being mobile, because he is capable of getting a good gain with his feet, but he won’t put up “T-Mobile” yardage.
It’s not all great in the passing game, though. Thomas has thrown five interceptions in seven games; Taylor threw five all of last season. It should be noted, however, that Thomas has about the same sort of completion percentage and his passer rating isn’t terrible, though it’s just 7th in the ACC.
At this point, is Thomas the all-around player Taylor was for the Hokies? No. Is he at the very least passable and capable of doing enough to win games? He has proven as much already, so yes.
