What we thought about this game in the offseason

This is the Spaziani Super Bowl; the game this coaching staff actually wants to win because of the man on the other sideline. Sure, they might be a pretty decent team this year, even without Russell Wilson, but it’s at Alumni Stadium, so it should be a close contest.

What we think about it now

This game should be close, alright, but not because both teams are playing well. NC State is having a pretty bad season, though their current 3-3 record would not necessarily lend itself to that sort of criticism. The main knock on them is their defense, which is the worst in the ACC, allowing over 30 points per game, and is only second in most yardage allowed to our own Boston College Eagles.

The Wolfpack are 11th in total offense in the conference, just one spot better than BC. NC State is, however, fifth in scoring offense, whereas the Eagles remain stuck in the basement at dead last.

Mike Glennon, quarterback for NC State, isn’t Wilson, but he’s got the 4th-best passer efficiency in the conference. That said, they have less of a run game than we do.

Boston College win probability

Moderate. This one has the potential to be ugly and borderline unwatchable. The Eagles can’t score points, but the Wolfpack can’t stop anybody. Meanwhile, the Eagles have had a great deal of trouble stopping the opposition, while the Wolfpack are 11th in the ACC in total offense. It seems like this may be, if the current trends hold up, a close, low-scoring type game.
