Bye Week Breakdown: Boston College Special Teams
By Joe Micik
Boston College special teams sometimes seems nebulous and hard to figure, but the general sense is that so far in 2011, they haven’t been good and they haven’t been bad, either. With all of the problems going on in the offense and defense, their contributions (or lack thereof) are completely overshadowed. This group has, however, been far from the biggest issue the Eagles have had at the half-way point of this season.
Kicker
Nate Freese’s season did not start off how he wanted, but following the Duke game, his numbers have gotten much better and his kicking more consistent.
In fact, since the Duke game (where Freese missed a field goal and an extra point, two games after having missed two field goals against Northwestern), he has not missed a kick, making 5 of 5 field goals and 9 of 9 extra points. In the Wake Forest game, he notched his best field goal with a 52-yarder.
No question that Freese had a worrisome start to the season, but he seems to have ironed things out in the most recent three games.
