When It Comes to BC Football, Coaches Hot Seat Gets It

Few outside the Boston College fan sphere understand the problems with the football program. When you have the national media either ignoring us, belittling us, or condescending to us about how bad a coaching change would be for our team, and local hack writers (who know who they are) that format their articles poorly and seem to take their talking points straight from Gene’s desk, it can be hard to sift through the smoke and mirrors and piece together the truth. Coaches Hot Seat, however, does understand what’s really going on here, and today, I want to take this opportunity to praise them.

I encourage you to read the entirety of yesterday’s post about BC, which truly seems to encapsulate just about every issue with how this football program is run.

Here is the key excerpt from their article, which sums up our plight about as well as possible:

"So, let’s get this straight:At Boston College you CAN get fired for interviewing for a better jobBUTYou CANNOT get fired at Boston College for actually losing football games!"

Herein lies the problem, folks. The problem is not just Frank Spaziani; it is also the guy who put him there. It goes back to WHY that guy put him there in the first place: because he wanted a “loyal” yes-man who wasn’t going to leave, regardless of seemingly-trivial things like competence, a proven track record, and boldness. Well, he got it, and we are now the laughingstock of FBS football. Congratulations.

We’re supposed to believe that youth and injuries have plagued this team, and poor Coach Spaz had his cupboard left bare by a guy who hasn’t coached here in three years. We’re also supposed to believe that “meaningful gestures” like buying lunch for BC employees is good enough. At a cursory scan of all of the other Boston College blogs, both new and old and including this one, we have all had it with not just the losing football games, but the culture of losing which is being built in this program. Sometimes, it feels like we are stamping our feet for no reason because nobody is listening, but finally, someone else out there has put it all together. We salute you, CHS.
