Linebackers

When you have arguably the best middle linebacker in the nation playing for you, you expect to have a defense better than 95th, and yet, here we are.

In fact, this Boston College Eagles team features two linebackers, Kuechly and Kevin Pierre-Louis, who have stood out and done an outstanding job so far this season. Kuechly in particular is his usual impressive self: he has 99 tackles in six games, which is 18 more than the second-highest player (Brian Wagner of Akron with 81). What’s even more impressive is that an astounding 58 of those tackles were solo, which is 11 more than the next highest player (Trent Mackey of Tulane at 47).

Luke Kuechly may or may not be the best linebacker in the nation (a guy like Vontaze Burfict of Arizona State might have something to say about it, though I’d take Luke on my team seven days a week), but if not, he is almost certainly in the top three. This corps is hurt by the overall failure of the defense so far this year, but have been a bright spot.
