Bye Week Breakdown: Boston College Offense
By Joe Micik

Quarterback
Our hopes for Chase Rettig coming into this season may not have been sky-high, but they were elevated. I don’t think there’s a single one of us coming into this season who didn’t think Rettig would have a year that would give us hope for the future. He has shown us glimmers of good play, but his stat line has not been up to par.
That stat line is also, to a degree, misleading. No quarterback is going to complete 70% of his passes over the course of a season when he is running for his life or getting flattened by a defensive end on every other play. Still, there have been a number of other chances for Rettig to complete passes, without the problems caused by a defenseman, and he’s been off-target, sometimes missing open receivers by a handful of yards and throwing ill-timed interceptions.
There is no question that Chase Rettig needs to play better, but he needs blocking too. It is almost difficult to find out what you have at the quarterback position when he doesn’t usually get any time to work or consistently has no stable pocket. I don’t think I’m going to get the chance to see it, however, so what I and all BC fans should be hoping for is that Rettig doesn’t get killed by future blitzes.
