Meet Your New Hockey Eagles: Brad Barone

The last of the nine freshman to whom you’re being introduced ahead of Friday night’s season opener against Michigan State is goalie Brad Barone (#29). He is the oldest of the newcomers at age 20, and he will be 21 in December.

Another local, Barone comes from Medfield and went to high school at Roxbury Latin. He comes from a Boston College family: his father, Ted, is a Boston College graduate, and his mother, Stacey, got her Ph.D. from BC and now is an associate professor on the Heights. It’s only natural, then, that Barone would choose to go to Boston College.

Prior to coming to BC, he spent two years as part of the South Shore Kings of the EJHL. He was voted the team’s MVP last season, holding a 3.25 GAA and .913 save percentage, helping the Kings win 18 games.

Barone committed to Boston College in 2009 and, at the time, was actually doing a little better in terms of save percentage than BC’s other goalie recruit, Brian Billett. He was supposed to come here last year, but what matters now is that he’s here.

In 2009, the aforementioned year of his commitment to BC, he was named a first-team All-New England goalie at Roxbury Latin.

On the goalie depth chart, so to speak, Parker Milner will be first, and by all accounts, Brian Billett may be second, but don’t count out Barone. Like just about everyone else who is coming into this program, he’s had a solid track record of success before coming to BC. The only knock on him has been his size. Now, being 5-11 isn’t bad, but Milner and Billett are both a little taller and a little heavier. Still, as is the case with all of our freshman, I expect contributions. Maybe not this season, but I expect contributions. To Brad and all the other incoming freshmen recruits, welcome aboard.
