Meet Your New Hockey Eagles: Quinn Smith

The next freshman Boston College hockey player we’re going to meet is a 19-year old forward from Connecticut: Quinn Smith (#27). He is from Fairfield and most recently played for the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL.

While out in Ohio, Smith’s 2010-2011 season was statistically alright. He had 17 points last year (9 g, 8 a) in 52 game appearances. His 2009-2010 season was his senior year of high school, and that was much better. Smith played for Avon Old Farms, the school Eagle junior Pat Mullane attended from 2005 to 2008, and was the team MVP in 2010, aside from being the team captain and a leading force in their championship season. During that impressive year, he totaled 46 points (21 g, 25 a). He was a teammate of Kevin Tiefenwerth, another BC commit who seems to have vanished (is not on the Eagles’ roster for this upcoming season).

Smith is considered in the upper level of the recruits coming onto this hockey team. He’s short (5-8) and light (165), but there is talent. Enough talent, in fact, to get noticed by College Hockey Source and be ranked amongst their Top 50 forwards. If you look up and down that list, in fact, you’ll see a few BC names on that list, the paramount of which is John Gaudreau at #10. Incoming goalie Brian Billett is also listed in his area.

Finally, what we also know about Smith, aside from the fact that he’s well-regarded, is that he was not drafted in the NHL Draft. That shouldn’t stop him from contributing to this team.
