Meet Your New Hockey Eagles: Cam Spiro

Boston College is one of the elite hockey programs in the nation, and as such, they can pull in recruits from all over the nation. Today’s freshman hockey player up for introduction, Cam Spiro (#15), however, did not have far to come to get here. This 5-11 forward hails from Hingham, Massachusetts.

Spiro, who will be 20 in December, played his high school hockey at his academy, Tabor, down in Marion, Massachusetts. During his senior year, he was named to the All-New England team in the NEPSIHA, the prep school hockey league. He, the team captain, ended up with 52 points (27 g, 25 a) over a 26-game season. In 2009-2010, his junior year, Spiro was a 50-point player (28 g, 22 a).

At around the same time as he played at Tabor, Spiro also played for the Neponset Valley River Rats (play in Foxboro, headquartered in Mansfield), part of Hockey Northeast (a Tier 1 midget league). When he played for Neponset Valley, he was the team’s leading scorer (19 goals in 23 games).

Information on Spiro is not easy to come by, but at the lower levels of competition, we have seen him dominate. He scores a lot of goals and is good for more than his fair share of assists as well. Furthermore, at 5-11 and 195 pounds, he appears to have the size that some of the younger guys lack (this could also be because he’s almost 20, as opposed to some of the other guys coming in who are 18).

Finally, and I don’t know if some of these players like or don’t like BC fans following them on Twitter, but if you are interested in keeping up with him, you can check him out @Cspiro15. If you check his “following” list, you can also find a bunch of other new freshman BC hockey players to follow.
