#4: June 1, 2011: Sailing wins back-to-back national championships
It’s also quite rare that Boston College teams win nationally in much of anything outside of hockey, but the sailing team is one of those teams that consistently ranks amongst the nation’s best.
On June 1, they brought home the trophy yet again, finishing well ahead of the second-place competitors to win their second-consecutive national title. Not long after, they were awarded the Fowle Trophy (for “Best All-Around Team”) and put five sailors on the All-American team.
They went further than any other Boston College sport this season, so despite the fact that this isn’t exactly a team that can draw the big crowds (how could they, anyway?), they deserve a spot on the list. BC had to wait all the way until June for their national championship this season, but better late than never.
