BC sports year coming down the stretch
By Joe Micik
There are only a few more weeks of Boston College sports left in the 2010-2011 season. Commencement is in about a week and a half (and so is the mega, week-long, five-part year-in-review series), some non-seniors have already bolted for the summer, and we’re getting ready to close this chapter of Eagles athletics. I know that for many of you, the BC sports season ended when Colorado College blew the doors off of the Eagles in St. Louis, but we are a school of many varsity teams, and the ones that are left are wrapping up soon. In that year-in-review week, as in years past, I intend to say something about every single one of those teams, even if just a few lines, so fear not, non-revenue Eagles sports: your moment is coming.
Of the teams still playing, most notably, the Eagles baseball team has only a few contests remaining on the schedule. On Saturday and Sunday, they face LeMoyne, followed by St. John’s, and then a season finale series* against NC State.
(*-The Eagles have technically not been eliminated from ACC Tournament contention yet, but the odds of them qualifying are approximately 1 in 4,681 based on straight probability, or about a 0.021% chance).
The softball team will take part in the ACC Tournament this weekend, starting today in a tilt with North Carolina. They’re 15-30 (5-13 ACC) on the year, so short of a memorable weekend – in other words, winning the whole thing – the end of their season is fast approaching as well.
The women’s lacrosse team, however, has made it to the NCAA Tournament. It is the first time in program history that they’ve made the national tournament. They will face #2 Northwestern on Saturday in Evanston, Illinois.
Other than some men’s and women’s track meets, and maybe some women’s rowing, prepare for football. And the epic year-in-review articles.
