Anthony Castonzo drafted by Colts
By Joe Micik
Our wait to find out where Boston College OT Anthony Castonzo will play was not very long, and as universally expected, he went in the first round. Castonzo did wait, however, longer than most people thought he might. He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts with the 22nd pick of the 2011 NFL Draft.
He was not at the draft in New York; he stayed at home in Illinois. At it turns out, Castonzo won’t have to go all that far to Indianapolis.
He did go kind of far down the board, however. First, Dallas passed on him. Then Detroit, a recently-popular mock draft pick, said no. Next, most surprisingly, both the New England Patriots and New York Giants passed and went in their own directions. The Pats took a different tackle while the Giants, in this crazy first round, took a value pick at #19.
After Kansas City, another potential suitor, traded out of the #21 pick, Castonzo’s phone rang as the Colts war room called him up.
I know many, many of my readers are not fans of the Colts, but I think we can all agree to offer Castonzo our sincere congratulations on making Boston College proud tonight.
Tomorrow, we may potentially see Mark Herzlich, one of the Radio City invitees, come off of the board. Stay tuned.
